Hello, I joined pss about 5 weeks ago and have been making steady progress. Loving the game so far but the social aspect is really lacking for me. I'm looking for an alliance with a strong outside of game social presence as I like to get stuck in discussing interesting mechanics I've stumbled across etc. Just feels a bit of a lonely game for me to play at the moment, as my alliance is really inactive. This game still feels like it has quite a small community, and i would really like to get some solid info written up for new players to sink their teeth into as personally i love to research what is possible at the end of the road in a game. Without your basic guides i really wouldn't have had much to go on, and this is something i would like to contribute to.
If you have space next month could you consider me as an applicant? I plan to be around a long time as this game is a perfect distraction between my maths studies!

Welcome to the Squid boards. We're always happy to have new members to our little community. As for membership to the alliance, that's not up to me so I'll leave that for the leadership to decide. In the mean time, please feel free to browse our public resources and discuss interesting mechanics. I'm sure you can find a few sympathetic ears to help you out with strategy.
What's your ship class and level? What's your current alliance? How did you hear about us?

Im currently a pirate class ship, level 8 but upgrading to 9. Trophy count tends to hover around 2900 at the moment, i did hit 3000 but i deranked a bit to farm xp to level up crew. Ive been pacing myself and making sure i max crew levels and rooms before moving on. All my crew are 32 at the moment, and i trained some 3 gem crew to 30 for donation purposes. Alliance is Lonewolf Squadron. When i started a month ago i did a mass google search looking for information relating to the game, first i found the pss wiki but its pretty lacklustre and seems to be very outdated. Looking at further results i came across the captains handbook and thus was brought here.

I hear ya on the lackluster wiki. Seriously weak sauce. If I recall correctly, the max crew level is 4x your ship level, so you're about to (or already have) hit the wall there until your ship upgrade completes. On a side note, good choice on the Pirate Ship. [rant]The Golem (my class) is the most convoluted layout. The extra 8 blocks I get, and more, are wasted on empty/unusable space and extra elevators.[/rant]
As I understand it, lowering your rank for easier wins is no longer necessary. You get a mix of high and low level options in PvP searches. But if you feel it's still effective, we'd love to hear your method and results in the discussion section.

I actually agree with you there, with the v.10 patch they seemed to have changed matchmaking to where it would only give you harder matches. But i think this was in error and basically it was fixed again in v.11. I read the archive on the matchmaking issues and figured this had been reintroduced in error so i tried out that method described to derank a little and it worked during v.10. But now its fixed its no longer an issue. Love running into level 10's with level 10 crew and barely any upgrades/resource rooms.
