Part 6: A Guide to Basic AI commands
Understanding Commands
First let’s look at your basic AI command.. There’s two parts to every command.. It has a “Condition” and an “Action”
(People sometimes call the “Condition” a “trigger”.. because it’s what “triggers” the Action)
When you tell crew to "target" it means "go stand in" and if its possible.. they will go stand there! if there's a bad guy they will shoot them.. if there's damage they will repair it, if everythings fine.. they will use their skills to improve the room (if its a room that can be boosted by crew) You don't need to tell them to do any of that stuff! Just tell them where to stand!
Anyway! back to AI commands...
If the Condition OR Action is not possible, the command is skipped! Your AI always wants to perform the top command (number 1) the most!.. only if it’s not possible will it try to do the next command!
So…

Only if command 1 is no longer possible will command 2 be preformed..
Only if command 1,2 is no longer possible will command 3 be preformed..
Only if command 1,2,3 is no longer possible will command 4 be preformed..
So OK! I’ll do command 4! BUT if command 1,2,3 ever become possible, I’ll stop and go do that!

Let’s play a game! Or maybe it’s a quiz.. look at this command list again.. and think long and hard about what you just learned.. You’re going to try and guess where the heck Emily went.. She stole your headphones, not cool Emily..
(Answers are dimmed out, highlight or select all to see them)
QUESTION 01 : Your Ship has Active Shields, your ship is 85% Health, Emily is at 50% health… Where is Emily?
(Answer.. Lasers.. because your ship was over 50% health that’s the command Emily will follow..)
QUESTION 02 :Your ship has Active Shields your ship is 45% Health Emily is at 100% health.. Where is Emily?
(Answer.. Engines.. Commands 1-3 didn’t trigger so command 4 took Emily to the engines)
QUESTION 03 :Your Ship has no Active Shields, Your ship is 43% Health, Emily is 50% health.. where is Emily?
(Answer.. Missile.. command 1 triggered, nothing else matters)
Did you get those right? If not.. figure out why.. because the next part is harder...
Time for some advanced questions.. We are removing the Missile rooms and Shield room from your ship! But leaving the commands the same.. so technically they aren’t possible anymore! Here’s that command list again..
QUESTION 04 : Your Ship has no active shields, your ship is 85% Health, Emily is at 50% health… Where is Emily?
(Answer.. Lasers.. Even if you have no active shields, the ACTION to go to the Missle room is not possible so the whole command gets skipped!)
QUESTION 05 : Your Ship has no active shields, your ship is 45% Health, Emily is at 50% health… Where is Emily?
(Answer.. Engines.. The Actions to go to Missles and Shields are not possible so command 1 & 3 are ignored... !)
We did it! We caught Emily and shes going out an airlock. Your work here is done!
