Part 2: A Guide to Crew & DropShips
Your Ships Crew
Crew (you can recruit) come in 5 different rarities. You can get a general idea how good a crew member is by looking at this 1 to 5 gem rating. People also call these "stars" or "diamonds".
1 gem = Common
2 gem = Elite
3 gem = Unique
4 gem = Epic
5 gem = Hero
Crew Stats
So what does all this stuff really mean?
Any time you see a number /number (example 3/7) it means the crew member has “3” currently, and at max level they could have ”7”
Level = The level of the crew member gives you an idea how close they are to reaching all their max stats. The max level is always 40.
XP = This is the total lifetime XP the crew member has gained
HP = The crew members hit-points! 1 hit-point is lost if the crew member is in a room that’s hit with a laser for example.
Attack = When this crew member fights an enemy crew member, this is how much damage they will do with each hit.
Repair = The amount of health bars repaired each hit when this crew member is fixing a damaged or destroyed room.
Ability = Most 3 Gem and higher crew have a sepecial ability! the strength of that ability is determined by this ability stat. (more on this later)
Pilot = Increases launch speed when crewmember is occupying the Hanger. Also may increases chance to escape when crew member is occupying the Bridge room.
Shield = Increases Shield Recharge rate when crewmember is occupying the Shield room.
Engine = Increases missile dodge when crewmember is occupying the engine room.
Research = Broken. Ignore this stat
Weapon = Increases Weapon Recharge rate when crewmember is occupying a weapon room (mining laser, turret, missile launcher, plasma cannon)
PRO TIP: If you have 3 crew in a room, all 3 will add their own bonus to the room! But if a laser hits the room, it will damage all three also!
Heroic Abilities
Crew (2gem and up) have Heroic Abilities! Here is a table of what each power will do!
A Full list of which crew has what ability is listed on the Pixel Starships Wiki!

Where to get Crew
Crew can be recruited directly from the “Shop” button on the bottom right. Open the “Character” Section and you will be presented with 2 choices
Choice 1: at the top is commonly called “Mineral Recruitment” or “Mineral Pull”
What it Costs : Mineral pulls cost… minerals (the crystal icon). Keep in mind the price goes up for each crew member you currently have! So if you’re trying to get better crew, be sure to keep costs down by getting rid of crew you don’t want! (drag them into space… jokingly referred to as throwing them out an airlock)
What you Get: Mineral pulls can get you crew with either a 1,2 or 3 gem rarity. You should aim to have only 3 gem crew or better.
(Check here for a list of the best 3-Gem Crew!)
Choice 2: at the bottom is commonly called “Hero Recruitment” or “Hero Pull”
What it Costs : Hero pulls cost starbucks (Money Icon). The first hero pull will cost you 100 starbucks, and the price will rise if you are luckly enough to get a 4 or 5gem crew member. Also before you can ever do a hero pull you need to research “Beer” in the lab room.
What you Get: Hero pulls can get you crew with either a 3,4, or 5 gem rarity. A new feature added increases your chance to get a 5 gem with each unsuccessful pull.
DropShip
Crew can also be purchased from a DropShip you see fly by above your own ship. (You might need to zoom out to find it)
The inventory of the Dropship changes once every 24 hours. however the cost to recruit from the Dropship is higher then a hero pull usually. Also, it’s pretty rare to see any 4 or 5 gem crew offered on it. But be sure the collect the free 3-10 starbucks from the first box each day!
PRO TIP: Press and hold on the picture of the crew member to see his Gem Rarity and basic stats! Remember pressing and holding on the picture or tapping on the picture won’t buy the crew member!… but clicking on the price below them will buy them!
